Deene Estate isn’t a hotel. It’s not a resort. It’s 5.2 private acres in Altmar, New York — built from the ground up by someone who believed this area deserved something better. I started with an idea, little to no savings, and everyone telling me no. This is what happened next.
I’m Brandon. I grew up in Guyana, came to America, and decided during Covid to stop waiting and start building. Three years of hosting later, I still answer every message myself — usually within the hour — and I’ll tell you straight whether the water is worth the drive that week.

How far is Deene Estate from the Salmon River?
Five minutes by car. The Douglaston Run is 22 minutes away and the fly-fishing-only zone is about eight.
Can I park a truck and boat trailer?
Yes — free on-site parking with room for a truck and trailer. Most rentals near the river cannot offer that.
How many people does it sleep?
Four. One bedroom with a king bed, a sofa bed in the living room, one bathroom. The property is adults only.
When is the best time to fish the Salmon River?
Kings run mid-September through October, coho follow behind them, and steelhead fish well from late autumn into early spring once the crowds thin out.
What are check-in and check-out?
Self check-in from 3:00 pm with a Yale smart lock, check-out at 11:00 am. No key handover, so pre-dawn starts and late arrivals both work.
Is there snowmobiling nearby?
Yes. Tug Hill gets more snow than anywhere else in the eastern US, and the trail network runs right past the property.
Where exactly is the cabin?
47 Gay Drive, Altmar, New York 13302 — on Halls Island. Syracuse is 50 minutes, New York City about four and a half hours.
